# Timeline: Setup & Usage

Enable Timeline, choose an event-processing mode, and view a contact's timeline

Timeline is a native addon you enable from Setup → Add-ons. Its settings live under Application Settings → Triggers, where a single switch turns event capture on or off. When it's on you also choose an event-processing mode: Real-time writes each event immediately and is the right choice when you don't run a background queue worker; Laravel Queue hands events to your queue worker to process in the background and suits busy installs that already run a worker; Write to File records events to files for specialised setups. Fresh installs enable Timeline automatically and default the mode to match your application's queue setting (Real-time when there's no worker, Laravel Queue otherwise), so most people never need to change it. To view a contact's history, open any contact list, click a subscriber to open the side panel, expand the Subscriber Timeline section, and use Load More to page back through the newest-first history. Turning Timeline off stops new events from being recorded but keeps the history already collected.
